The modern marathon was when the Greeks won the battle against the Persians and the leader of the Greeks sent a soldier named Pheidippides to tell the people that they won. And he ran from marathon city to Athens. But once got there he shouted “Niki” and collapsed and died.
In 1896 the Pheidippides run was revived and called a marathon.
Now in the Olympics they do a marathon it is the last event in the Olympic games.
Over the past there have been amazing heroic feats and dramatic finishes in the marathon event.
